UNODC strengthens capabilities for criminal investigation of cyber crimes against children and adolescents
In Guatemala City, Guatemala, on March 16 of 2017 the Workshop "Combating Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation through Social Networks", was developed with the support of UNODC, ICMEC and Facebook. There were 110 attendees, personnel from the National Civil Police and the Public Ministry.
In the workshop, Pilar Ramírez, Legal Advisor and Project Coordinator of ICMEC, gave a presentation on statistics of digital material containing child sexual abuse, international terminology and indicators on the use of social networks by children and adolescents. After this, Jason Barry, Manager of Trust and Security for the Americas on Facebook, presented Facebook's security policies, actions to ensure the safety of children and procedures for Facebook requests within Criminal investigation processes.
The workshop was developed within the framework of the Global Cybercrime Project, "Strengthening the Capacity to Prevent and Combat Cybercrime and Internet Crimes Against Children in Central America." In Guatemala, the project is funded by Canada.
