UNODC strengthens the capacities of the PNC to prosecute the crimes of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants facilitated by ICTs

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in coordination with the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador and the Cyber Center Police Directorate of Colombia National Police developed the workshop "Prevention of Computer Crime, Trafficking in Persons and Human Trafficking" delivered to members of different Units of El Salvador National Civil Police.

The aim of the workshop was to provide approaches and best practices on effective methods and techniques to ensure a successful investigation on trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrant facilitated by information and communication technologies. 

The workshop took place on June 28 2017, at National Civil Police facilities and was delivered to 35 members of the Division of Emergency 911 and to the Chiefs of Prevention Units of every Delegation of Investigation. The workshop was opened by Ms. Nayelly Loya, Deputy Manager of UNODC Programme Office for El Salvador. Ms. Loya delivered a presentation on the importance of prevention and effective prevention measures.

Additionally, Patroller Sanders Chacón, responsible of social networks of the Colombian Cyber Center Police Directorate deliver an all-day workshop on best practices on on-line and real-world prevention and the Colombian experience on this matter.  Patroller Chacón answered questions related to cases of trafficking in persons and trafficking of migrants facilitated by social networks, identification of first responds when dealing with these crimes, identification and individualization of profiles in social networks and preservation of information in social networks.

This workshop was provided by UNODC thanks to the financial resources generously provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador, in the framework of the project "Preventing and Fighting against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons in El Salvador" implemented by UNODC. As well as UNODC broader efforts in the Global Programme on Cybercrime.
