UNODC supports el Salvador National Civil Police capabilities to effectively counter cybercrime

San Salvador, 20, January, 2017. In the context of UNODC efforts in providing specialized assistance to El Salvador law enforcement agencies to effectively fight against cybercrime, and as part of the implementation of the project "Strengthening of the capacities of El Salvador National Police to effectively identify and investigate cybercrime cases", it was inaugurated the Training Workshop "Basic Cybercrime Concepts and Applicable Law in El Salvador".

This Training Workshop will be delivered to more than 170 telephone operators (divided in eight groups), from El Salvador National Civil Police Division of Emergencies 911, from February 20 to March 2, 2017, in the Division of Emergencies 911 headquarters in San Salvador. The Workshop will be delivered by Ms. Nayelly Loya, Deputy Manager of UNODC Programme Office for El Salvador and UNODC Global Programme on Cybercrime Project Coordinator in El Salvador.

The purpose of this Workshop is to train Division of Emergencies 911 telephone operators on cybercrime basic concepts (what is cybercrime?), actions to perform when receiving a call reporting a cybercrime related-incidents (guidelines to instruct the victim what to do), legislation applicable in El Salvador, as well as units and delegations of El Salvador National Civil Police responsible of investigating cybercrime (coordination with these units and delegations).

This Training Workshop is possible thanks to the financial resources provided by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador, in the context of the project "Strengthening of the capacities of El Salvador National Police to effectively identify and investigate cybercrime cases", implemented by UNODC Global Programme on Cybercrime.
