UNODC supports therapeutic project in Correctional Centers of the Dominican Republic
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Dominican Republic supports the implementation in the country of the therapeutic-educational program for people with drug abuse disorder named "Proyecto Hombre"(FUNCESOSANDO). To this end, six professionals Dominicans have completed internships for three months at Proyecto Hombre in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) with funds from the Social Ministry and have received training and technical support from the UNODC.
On November 24th, two years of implementation of this methodology were held through self-help groups and individual interviews at the Najayo Correction and Rehabilitation Center with 65 inmates benefited to date. In it, recognitions were given to the users with a good development within the program. In its foundations is to be a reference institution in the comprehensive treatment of addictions at the national level by the promoting training on prevention, rehabilitation and social inclusion programs with strategies based on scientific evidence.
During these years, technical support has been given on behave of UNODC to the therapeutic team, strengthening their capacities, as well as direct intervention with the participants.
