Virtual session on arms trafficking and smuggling in the Caribbean

Barbados, 25 August 2020.Prior to the Caribbean Forum on Maritime Crime, to be held in 2021, the Global Programme against Maritime Crime in the Caribbean held the second virtual session on the topic of arms trafficking and smuggling, in which more than 100 coast guards and prosecutors from over 25 Caribbean countries participated.

This virtual session examined the landscape of smuggling and illicit trafficking by the sea in the Caribbean; diplomatic cooperation in combating arms trafficking and the prosecution of arms trafficking crimes (legal foundations).

The Caribbean Global Maritime Crime Programme team complements existing cooperation frameworks in the region to improve law enforcement responses to maritime crime.
