Workshop on Darknet and Cryptocurrency Investigations
In Guatemala City, from April 23
rd to 27
th of 2018, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central America and the Caribbean (UNODC ROPAN) held the "Training Course on Darknet and Cryptocurrency Investigations". The Workshop was developed as part of the Project "Strengthening the Capabilities of Competent Authorities to Prevent and Combat Cybercrime and Crimes on the Internet against Children in Central America" (ICAC).
The Workshop was aimed to the Cybercrime unit of the National Civil Police, Computer Management Unit of the Ministry of Government, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Interpol with functions of criminal investigation and prevention. There was the International participation of the National Civil Police and the Public Ministry of Honduras, El Salvador and Panama.
The Workshop was developed by Alexandru Caciuloiu, the UNODC Cybercrime Project Coordinator of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The following topics were addressed: Cryptocurrency; community and ecosystem; Blockchain regulation; How and when to start a cryptocurrency investigation? How to detect changes and control of Bitcoin? Internet Research Techniques, including Dark Net and Clear Net sources; Investigation techniques in the Deep web, discussion of cases of Cryptocurrency in Criminal Investigations, actions and confiscation including Inter-agency coordination and Digital Evidence
