Thailand to stand up against corruption

Bangkok (Thailand), 10 December 2009 - This year, International Anti-corruption Day was marked in Thailand by a conference held in Bangkok, where national participants actively took part in the campaign against corruption. An event organized by the People's Anti-Corruption Network and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) took place at the Hotel Miracle Grand in an effort to initiate a global response to corruption.

Furthermore, UNODC joined forces with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to undertake a joint workshop for UNDP staff on the significance and implications of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Alan Doig, international expert on corruption at UNODC and Anti-Corruption Mentor at NACC made a call for action: "Corruption is a serious issue that undermines democratic structures and public confidence, and it must be addressed now."
