Jakarta (Indonesia), 21 February 2017
- Following the successful launch of the Country Programme (CP) for 2017-2020 in November last year, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme Office in Indonesia, Bappenas and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs convened the Programme Governance Committee and the Technical Working Groups on 17 February 2017 to discuss and approve UNODC's work plans for 2017.

UNODC's Country Programme builds on the foundation of previous UNODC programmes and projects by establishing a consolidated approach of inter-linked sub-programmes that will address various non-traditional security, governance and health issues in the country. The Programme Governance Committee provides strategic oversight and direction for the Country Programme and the meeting is a significant step in continuing this work.

"UNODC's strong partnership with the Government of Indonesia has been the foundation through which we have been able to deliver high-quality outputs that support Indonesia's own development agendas and priorities," said Mr. Collie Brown, UNODC Indonesia Country Manager. "The Programme Governance Committee review will allow this effort to continue and further strengthen our partnership".

Collie Brown, Country Manager, Dr. Diani Sadiawati, Senior Advisor to Minister of National Development Planning on Institutional Relations and Andi Rachmianto, Director of International Security and Disarmament at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly chaired the Committee.

In highlighting the importance of enhancing the close cooperation and coordination between the Government of Indonesia and UNODC in implementing the Country Programme, Mr. Rachmianto encouraged line ministries to fully utilise the Committee as well as the Working Groups to make Indonesia safer from crime, drugs, and terrorism.

"UNODC's support in the country is focused on four interdependent sub-programmes which are developed in line with Indonesia's Short and Medium Term Goals, UNODC's regional programme and the UN Partnership for Develeopment " said Mr. Rachmianto.

He further added that "As we celebrate ten years of strong partnership between Indonesia and UNODC, we also look forward to signing another important document which is the Host Country Agreement".

On behalf of the Ministry of National Development Planning/ Bappenas as the executing agency for UNODC programmes in Indonesia, Dr. Diani in her remarks referred to the Programme Governance Committee as pivotal in increasing cooperation between the Government of Indonesia and UNODC in implementing programmes and activities in Indonesia.
