Danilo Rizzi is the Regional Representative for South-Eastern Europe (SEE) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) since 1st June 2022.
His primary role is to oversee, manage and coordinate the overall corporate operations, strategy, and performance across the SEE region, under the UNODC mandates pertinent to drug prevention and health, transnational organized crime and non-traditional security threats, illicit financial flows, corruption and asset recovery, terrorism prevention, rule of law, crime prevention and criminal justice reform, governance accountability and transparency.
After his appointment as Regional Representative, he worked with his team to reconfigure the administrative, logistics, financial and programmatic architecture of the Regional Office which was located in the UNODC HQs in Vienna. On 1st March 2023, he moved the Regional Office for South-Eastern Europe with the first group of UNODC staff to Istanbul (Türkiye).
Before the current role in SEE, Danilo Rizzi worked in the UNODC HQs in Vienna and West and Central Asia in managerial roles in country, regional and global programmes. Prior to his professional time at UNODC, he worked for the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of the Interior, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of his country in managerial and diplomatic assignments.
He holds master degrees in Law and Jurisprudence (University of Parma), in Economy and Financial Security (University of Rome Tor Vergata), and International and Diplomatic Science (University of Gorizia-Trieste).
