3rd Expert Group Meeting on the Guidelines on Investigation and Prosecution of Firearms Offences

13-14 June 2022, Vienna, Austria: The UNODC Global Firearms Programme (GFP) organized the 3rd Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Guidelines on Investigation and Prosecution of Firearms Offences. The 3rd EGM was held in person and gathered more than 20 criminal justice practitioners from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and the Western Balkans, as well as the representatives of FRONTEX and INTERPOL.

After developing the structure and the content of the Guidelines during the previous two EGMs, the objective of the 3rd EGM was to review the current draft text of the Guidelines and obtain the final inputs from the criminal justice practitioners.

During a two-day constructive discussion and exchange, the Guidelines’ content was considered in detail and specific observations from the criminal justice practitioners were obtained. In the forthcoming period, UNODC GFP will finalize the Guidelines and proceed with their roll-out in different regions of the world.

This activity is implemented with the financial support provided by the Western Balkans SALW Control Multi-Partner Trust Fund, the Government of France and the European Union.

This activity contributes to SDG 16, particularly Target 16.4 to significantly reduce illicit financial and arms flows, strengthen the recovery and return of stolen assets and combat all forms of organized crime.
