Regional Anti-Corruption and Illicit Finance Roadmap - the way forward

7-8 November 2022, Vienna, Austria: On the margins of the November sessions of the Implementation Review Group, the Working Group on Asset Recovery and the Expert Meeting on International Cooperation, representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo[1] came together in Vienna International Centre to discuss the future priorities in the implementation of the Regional Anti-Corruption and Illicit Finance Roadmap (ACIF) for the Western Balkans. The meeting was organized by UNODC (acting as Secretariat to the Roadmap) and the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative (RAI) and was generously funded by the Government of the United Kingdom.

Participants brainstormed on new priorities based on the Berlin Process meetings in October and November and the regional meeting on the ACIF Roadmap held in Dubrovnik in October. Discussions focused on strengthening the participation of society in the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the cooperation among Governments, the private sector and civil society organizations to increase the effectiveness of the Roadmap measures.

Speakers presented good practices in public procurement and asset declarations while stressing the role of civil society in identifying loopholes in legislation and administrative practice.
