UN System Task ForceĀ

On Transnational Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking

In February 2014, the Task Force collectively developed the below Talking Points intended to assist the UN system in internal coordination and messaging in relation to drug policy and the 2016 UNGASS. These Talking Points (developed before the March 2014 CND High Level Review and General Assembly Resolutions 69/200 and 69/201), were the result of an extensive consultation process among Task Force members and have been shared widely within the UN system. The UNGASS is a member state led process informed by the decisions of Member States and their ongoing preparations thereon.

Note: The Task Force was established in 2011 and is comprised of 14 UN entities: UNODC (Co-Chair); UN DPA (Co-Chair); DPKO; DPI; UNEP; UNAIDS; ODA; OHCHR; PBSO; UNICEF; UNDP; UN Women; World Bank; and WHO. It is also intended to be closely linked to the UN RoLCRG as well as other relevant mechanisms. In 2013, the Secretary-General requested the Task Force develop a strategy to provide input into the UNGASS through participation in events and discussions leading to the Special Session such as the CND High Level Review and the ECOSOC High Level Segment.
