AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT OF A GLOBAL EFFORT TO ADDRESS TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children was established in 2010 within the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, in line with the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.

As the first global legally binding instrument to protect and assist the victims of trafficking with full respect for their human rights, the Protocol frames the specific efforts to prevent and combat human trafficking, as well as to reinforce the implementation of existing instruments and promote cooperation among States Parties.

USD 7.8 million in contributions from a wide range of supporters.

Grants disbursed to over 90 NGO projects through Small Grants Programmes, totalling USD 4.8 million for projects in over 50 countries.

Over 3,500 individuals directly supported every year through its NGO partners.

 Operating three separate grant windows in 2020-2021 under the fourth Call for Proposals, with emergency and longer term capacity building grants.

 USD 1 million reserved for the fifth Grant Cycle starting from 2021.

Access to justice, legal advice and assistance, including legal representation for victims to obtain legal status, compensation and/or aid packages.

UNVTF Conducted Impact Survey on TIP Survivors & Mitigation of NGOs amid COVID-19

UNVTF is supporting its partners to identify and plan mitigation against risks related to COVID-19 in line with UN processes. As part of its risk assessment and Contingency Plan, the Trust Fund is working closely with NGOs grantees to collect country-specific information to minimise the risks and impact of COVID-19 on project implementation.

20/10/2020 - A new Board of Trustees has been elected for the UNODC-managed United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children in its fourth Board term.

As determined by the General Assembly, the Board is composed of five experts with relevant experience in the field of trafficking in persons who are appointed on the basis of fair equitable geographical distribution, in consultation with Member States and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). 20/05/2019 - The Trust Fund and Blue Heart Campaign organized A High-Level Event for the 28th Session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ)

Co-sponsored by the Governments of Belgium, France, Sweden and Italy, the high-level event focused on UNODC's flagship Blue Heart Campaign (BHC) and the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking (UNVTF), which supports 3000 trafficking victims every year through its NGO partners. The event commenced with a Signing Ceremony, where nine Member States announced their commitment to joining the global awareness-raising initiative in the fight against human trafficking and its impact on society.The work of the Trust Fund highlighted the achievements and lessons learned from its third grant cycle. Experiences from Nigeria and Italy showcased good practices in providing direct assistance to women and girl victims of trafficking, with the aim of helping survivors rebuild their lives.
