The United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will convene under the auspices of ECOSOC at UN headquarters in New York from 10 to 19 July 2017 (with a ministerial segment on 17 - 19 July).
The forum was created at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012 (Rio+20) to provide high-level policy guidance and promote and review implementation of sustainable development. During this session the forum will assume its central role in overseeing a network of review and follow-up processes at the global level as mandated by the 2030 Agenda.

The theme in 2017 will be Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world. The set of goals to be reviewed in depth will be the following, including Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, that will be considered each year:

Goal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere
Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
Goal 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Goal 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
Goal 10. Reduce inequality within and among countries
Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

In this regard, the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice will provide again substantive inputs to the 2017 HLPF showcasing the intergovernmental bodies' contribution towards the 2030 Agenda in general, and particularly for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and respective targets that are substantial to their mandate, as requested by the President of ECOSOC.
