19-20 May 2022 - An International Conference to promote ethics and integrity among the judiciary and to adopt and approve the code of ethics for public prosecutors was organized by Cabo Verde’s Attorney General’s Office with the assistance of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (through CRIMJUST III) at the island of Sao Vicente (Cabo Verde). The main objective of this event was to foster a dialogue around integrity-related challenges faced by prosecutors as well as to promote good practices to support judicial institutions, to ensure their resilience towards organized crime. Participants to this 2-day event included 45 public prosecutors from Cabo Verde, Mozambique and Bolivia.
This conference was organised under the framework of the Global Programme on Criminal Network Disruption (CRIMJUST), which is an integral component of the EU Global Illicit Flows Programme GIFP). CRIMJUST has been supporting the Attorney General’s Office of Cabo Verde with technical aid (based on the experience of Bolivia) and this 2-day event was intended to incentivize a practical and theoretical discussion among public prosecutors regarding judicial integrity and normative content of the proposed code of ethics that has been elaborated.

CRIMJUST has been supporting the Attorney General’s Office of Cabo Verde with technical aid (based on the experience of Bolivia) and this 2-day event was intended to incentivize a practical and theoretical discussion among public prosecutors regarding judicial integrity and normative content of the proposed code of ethics that has been elaborated.
Among the key outcomes were: 1) the approval of the code of ethics of the Cabo Verdean public prosecutors; 2) the identification of points of cooperation between the Attorney Generals of Cabo Verde and Mozambique; 3) and the identification of the elements of the Code of Ethics that will be used in the training programme for the actors in the criminal justice system. This important activity contributed to the exchange of best practices and experiences on integrity and made it possible to take a step forward towards a more independent, ethical, and accountable justice sector institutions.
CRIMJUST is funded by the European Union under the framework of the "Cocaine Route Programme" and by the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). It seeks to enhance law enforcement and judicial counter-narcotic strategies beyond interdiction activities and to foster transnational responses targeting each stage of the drug supply chain.
