On 27 August 2020 the Global Firearms Programme participated in the Working Group on amending the Criminal Code in North Macedonia and contributed to the discussion on the harmonization of the Code with the criminalisation provisions of the UN Firearms Protocol.
The meeting took place online and the members of the Working Group reviewed the amended text of Article 396 of the Criminal Code. The Working Group discussed UNODC’s proposal for harmonization and provided opportunity to UNODC’s experts to elaborate further on the latest version of the proposed changes. The Global Firearms Programme has also prepared and shared with the Working Group legal briefs, containing detailed analysis of the proposed provisions.
This activity is part of the UNODC’s regional project on Criminal Justice Response against Firearms Trafficking. The financial support is provided under the Western Balkans SALW Control Roadmap Multi-Partner Trust Fund by Germany, UK, Netherlands, France, Sweden and Norway.
