The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), through its Global Firearms Program, has donated equipment to the Ministry of Home Affairs of Guyana as part of its ongoing project activities in support of countering illicit firearms trafficking. The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday, 16 July 2024, in the Ministry’s Boardroom, with the UNODC representative facilitating the event.
The donated equipment includes a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and a DJI Mini 4 Pro drone. These were warmly received by the Honorable Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Robeson Benn, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andre Ally.
Minister Benn and Mr. Ally expressed their profound appreciation for the timely and valuable addition. They emphasized that the drones will significantly enhance the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure national safety and security.
“This donation reflects the UNODC's commitment to strengthening security measures and tackling illicit activities. The advanced technology of these drones will significantly improve our operational capabilities and support our mission to maintain public safety,” stated Minister Benn.
The UNODC representative reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to partnering with the Ministry to foster peace and security. “We are delighted to support the Ministry of Home Affairs with these drones, which will significantly advance their efforts in crime prevention and control,” they remarked.
