On 3 October 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia, the UNODC Global Firearms Programme (GFP) hosted a workshop to gather inputs from criminal justice practitioners for the completion of the Firearms Case Law Collection, Volume 2. The meeting brought together over 20 participants from the judiciary, prosecutor’s offices, and law enforcement agencies.
The workshop began with an engaging session led by UNODC GFP, focusing on the structure of the Case Law Collection. Participants examined both criminal and secondary legislation, addressing contentious legal questions related to firearms offenses. Discussions explored the commission of these crimes, the implications of convertible weapons, and the misuse of firearms in gender-based violence, highlighting the critical intersection of human rights and emerging threats.
During the breakout session, attendees formed small groups to review specific sections of the draft, sharing observations and suggestions in a collaborative environment. This dynamic interaction fostered a sense of community, enriched further by a legal debate on points of interest. The day concluded with a plenary session where groups presented their feedback. This collaborative effort led to an action planning session that incorporated feedback into a timeline for revisions and assigned tasks for follow-up, paving the way for the completion of this important knowledge product.
This activity is implemented with financial support provided by Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and Norway through the Western Balkans SALW Control Roadmap Trust Fund and supported by the European Union.
