On 28 May 2024, the UNODC welcomed law students from Missouri, USA, and Serbia to its Programme Office in Belgrade. This educational initiative aimed at broadening the students' understanding of UNODC's diverse mandates and activities. Representatives from UNODC provided comprehensive presentations on the organization's efforts in drug prevention and rehabilitation, combating organized crime, and addressing critical issues such as human trafficking, firearms trafficking, drug trafficking, and strengthening national capacities in the areas of anti-corruption and asset recovery.
In addition to the presentations, UNODC facilitated an interactive exchange with the students, focusing on the organization's legislative and policy advisory services, capacity building for law enforcement, prosecutors, and the judiciary, and fostering international cooperation in criminal matters. This session provided the students with a deeper insight into how UNODC supports member states in developing and implementing effective legal frameworks, enhancing the skills of criminal justice practitioners, and promoting cross-border collaboration to tackle transnational crime. Through these discussions, the students were able understand complex and multifaceted nature of UNODC's work in Southeastern Europe and beyond.
