4 October 2017 - Through its work at the global, regional and national levels, UNODC provides support to Member States in reaching their targets under the
2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Acknowledging that the successful implementation of this ambitious agenda requires mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into actions and strengthening capacity in the field, UNODC recently organized a multi-step training workshop for its staff in Nairobi, Kenya.
Jointly organized by the Office's Strategic Planning and Inter-Agency Affairs (SPIA) and the Staff Development Units, the workshop focused on attaining the 2030 Agenda while taking into account regional and national needs. The training, in this regard, provided an opportunity to equip UNODC staff with crucial knowledge and skills, including programme development, communications, team building, facilitation, and managing for high performance.
The collaboration between the Units links two fundamental training realms: the expansion of substantive knowledge in the field and the strengthening of the United Nations core competencies, enhancing soft skills and promoting team spirit.
The workshop demonstrates UNODC's commitment to align technical assistance interventions with specific goals and indicators. It enhances staff skills and knowledge while providing the opportunity for UNODC staff to reflect on the activities in support of the 2030 Agenda.
When asked about the workshop, a participant said it has enlarged his "scope of knowledge regarding successful training facilitation and presentation skills." Similarly, another participant said: "I will now be linking my own work to broader UNODC projects."
The integrated training is the third of its kind following the missions in Uzbekistan and Pakistan. As part of efforts to provide consolidated and comprehensive support to field staff, UNODC will continue to carry out further capacity building activities.
