The Regional Conference for Fast-tracking UNCAC Implementation in Southeast Asia took place in February 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together stakeholders from government, civil society and the private sector. Representatives of CSOs from eight countries attending the regional conference agreed on the following civil society proposals for action.
A CSO Roundtable on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day 2018 took place in November 2018 in Bangkok with the active participation of 27 CSOs from the eight Southeast Asian countries of the platform. The CSOs agreed to coordinate around the three themes: Access to Information, Working with the Private Sector, and Integrity of Public Procurement.
A follow-up civil society roundtable, which was the third meeting involving CSO stakeholders on UNCAC implementation in Southeast Asia, took place in Manila, Philippines in November 2019. The roundtable brought together 23 CSOs to strengthen the CSO region network given the continuity of participants, build the skills of the CSOs, and serve as a bridge towards supporting civil society’s anti-corruption efforts in 2020. The UK Government Digital Service participated by presenting the huge savings that had been made through the UK Digital Marketplace scheme. Four CSOs were awarded small grants to further support activities to fast-track the UNCAC implementation across the platform: Manushya Foundation (Thailand), Philippines Center for Investigative Journalism, Transparency International Malaysia, and Spectrum (Myanmar).
Additionally, a Southeast Asia Anti-corruption e-Platform was launched to promote collaboration between CSOs, to identity partners, to monitor and promote UNCAC implementation, and to share best practices.
