‘Listen First’ is inclusive, and its non-stereotypical depictions of parenting and gender roles could even empower women and girls, according to Marian Salema, a UNODC Gender Team Programme Officer.
‘Listen First’ underwent a thorough review process with experts to ensure that the materials were science-based and appealing to its stakeholders, including parents, teachers, health workers, and professionals working in substance use prevention.
The UNODC Gender Team, which works specifically on gender equality and women empowerment, was part of this expert group. They reviewed the materials during production to ensure that there were no stereotypes perpetuating gender inequality in society. We are pleased that ‘Listen First’ is now shared by the UNODC Gender Team as a “gender mainstreaming tool” on its website.
