The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime welcomed the Government of the State of Qatar’s multi-year contribution (2023-2024) to the Office’s general-purpose resources.
The agreement with Qatar Fund for Development in the State of Qatar provides UNODC with $600,000 in general-purpose funding, which will help UNODC to implement its mandates and strengthen strategic direction and oversight of its work.
“UNODC delivers integrated, comprehensive support to address complex challenges of drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism, and we continue to see our project funding grow by leaps and bounds, demonstrating the trust governments have in our work,” said Angela Me, Acting Director of the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs. “The continued growth in earmarked, extra-budgetary funding presents some challenges nonetheless when it comes to financing core office functions, and contributions like the general-purpose funding from the State of Qatar are essential to ensuring that UNODC can carry out its work strategically, efficiently and effectively.
“UNODC thanks Qatar for this core budget contribution and we encourage all our donors and partners to follow the example of those already providing predictable multi-year funding, to promote longer-term stability and enable UNODC to target funds where they are needed most.”
