The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as part of the Global Parenting Initiative and the Parenting for Life Long Health in collaboration with University of Oxford, has partnered in the development and dissemination of evidence parenting tips to support families impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The "Ukraine Parenting Response Project" works with parents, educators, social workers, medical professionals, and other key influencers to help promote positive parenting skills and improve the mental health of children in Ukraine.
The project supported by several UN agencies (including WHO, UNICEF and UNHCR) aimed to reach affected families in both Ukrainian and Russian language resources through print and digital manuals and instructional videos.
The aim is to raise awareness about how essential parenting skills are to creating healthy environments for children, which will, in turn, help them be better prepared to cope with adversity.
UNODC supported the project with the substantive content of these tools given its long-lasting experience in availing parenting support packages for families living in humanitarian and other stressful settings as well as with its thematic experience in Gender Based Violence, violence against children, and prevention of human trafficking.
UNODC further supported the global dissemination and advocacy for the use of these materials as part of inter-agency work (references below).
This project has received a certificate of appreciation for the UNODC's contribution, which has been able to reach over 11.5 million people since June 2022.
