The Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC/TPB) is the key United Nations entity providing legal counter-terrorism technical assistance to Member States. TPB is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to assist Member States in, inter alia, the effective implementation of the universal legal framework against terrorism; countering the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes; support and assistance to victims of acts of terrorism; tackling chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) terrorism; responding to transport-related offences; promoting and protecting human rights while countering terrorism; countering terrorism financing; and strengthening international cooperation in criminal matters related to terrorism.
For over a decade, UNODC/TPB has been assisting and supporting victims of acts of terrorism inside and outside the criminal justice system. The United Nations proclaimed 21 August as The International Day for Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. In this regard, UNODC/TPB developed this video with assisted victims. The video is intended to share with the world the damage resulting from terrorist attacks; and to urgently mobilize the international support to, unfortunately, an untold number of victims of terrorism.
