The STARSOM project started with a four-day workshop in Male on effectively detecting, investigating and prosecuting migrant smuggling to, from and through the Maldives. Activities also focussed on financial investigations and cross-border cooperation in judicial matters.

Over 15 participants from 10 national agencies and government ministries, including representatives from the police and immigration services, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Prosecutor General's and the Attorney General's Offices, as well as the Financial Intelligence Unit attended the workshop.
