With its elaborate, global programmes focused on border management and cross-border crimes, including crimes that affect the environment, the Border Management Branch (BMB) launched a Gender Network in 2023 to ensure a holistic and coordinated response to gender mainstreaming.
The Branch follows a twin-track approach: gender is both mainstreamed in programme and project documents, applying gender analyses to design and concrete deliverables, and activities are delivered specifically to benefit women.
While the current gender portfolio mainly focuses on further empowering women professionals, BMB also looks at women’s various roles in crimes, such as in maritime crime and crimes affecting the environment.
