Family support providers play an essential role in helping children and families who are struggling with poverty and conflict. Family service workers often fill this role by providing support to parents and children at home or through community-based programs that build resilience within families. However, for many caregivers in challenging settings, providing this kind of support requires overcoming numerous barriers, including limited resources and competing responsibilities.
With the positively evolving experience with parenting tools in conflict or crisis situations coupled the increasing number of people displaced and raising children in such circumstances globally, including in the European Union as further exacerbated by the Ukrainian conflict, UNODC joined hands with many other institutions to advocate for the value and experiences with such tools on the verge of EUSPR 2022 conference in Tallin, Estonia.
This year’s EUSPR theme is “Prevention – Between Ethics and Effectiveness”. Under this theme and as an integral part of the 13th EUSPR Conference, the UNODC is co-hosting a pre-conference workshop on September 28th, to further explore opportunities of prevention professionals in supporting families and caregivers living in challenging circumstances or migrating due to war or natural disasters. This workshop will also explore the challenges faced by such families as well as means of further integration of such parenting packages as essential mental health and psychosocial services through diverse means of dissemination in different circumstances faced.
