UNODC delivers Intelligence analysis training for Drug Control Agency under the President of Republic of Tajikistan (DCA) officers

On 17-21 July 2023, UNODC conducted the ‘Intelligence Analysis Training’ for 17 intelligence officers from all provinces and a headquarter of DCA. The training was organized within the framework of the “Capacity Building of the DCA” component of Sub programme 1 of the Programme for Central Asia 2022-2025.

The training sessions were delivered in classroom-based settings with the aim to provide hands-on exercises with practical simulations of real-life scenarios and special attention to the principles of Human Rights.

Participants  gained the skills in working with various data sources, learned to distinguish and classify information, as well as studied the methods for processing, analyzing and effectively using a variety of open-source intelligence methods and tools on Clearweb, Socialmedia and Darkweb.

As it was emphasized by Mr. Shah Salman Khan, OIC Head of UNODC Programme Office for Tajikistan: “DCA plays critical role in fighting the illicit drugs, especially in view of deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan. UNODC will further strengthen the DCA capacity through the Sub-programme 1 of the Programme for Central Asia”.

Mr. Michael Kopper, the Acting Director of US Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in Tajikistan in his opening remarks expressed appreciation for the enduring close working relationship that UNODC and INL share in Tajikistan, and around the globe. He stressed the importance of intelligence sharing, citing the lessons learned by US law enforcement and intelligence services in September 2001.

This initiative was implemented with financial support by INL
