UNODC hands over office equipment and furniture to the State Border Service of Turkmenistan

On 24 June, UNODC Programme Office in Turkmenistan conducted a handover ceremony of the office equipment and furniture to the State Border Service of Turkmenistan.

The equipment and furniture were procured as part of technical assistance rendered within the Cross-Border Cooperation Project of Sub-programme 1 “Countering transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking and preventing terrorism” of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia to the State Border Service of Turkmenistan. The equipment and furniture will be installed at the Farap, Imamnazar, and Serhetabat border crossing points.

The UNODC representatives Maral Nazarova, National Programme Coordinator, Rahat Ekeyev, Programme Associate, and the representatives of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan headed by Shamurat Chachayev, Head of IT Department of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan, participated in the event.

UNODC representatives reiterated the organization’s commitment to continuing rendering technical assistance and strengthening cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan to address the challenges related to drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism - to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 16.

Shamurat Chachaev highlighted the positive outcomes of the activities carried out by UNODC through joint programmes in Turkmenistan. Mr. Chachayev reiterated the readiness of the State Border Service to cooperate and participate further in various events and workshops to be organized by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with UNODC in 2022.

The implementation of a national initiative under the project in Turkmenistan is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
