Since 1991, UNODC, through its Country Office in Nigeria, has been cooperating with the Federal Government, its specialized agencies, the judiciary, select State Governments, civil society and the private sector in making Nigeria safer from drugs, crime and terrorism.
As part of the United Nations Country Team, UNODC is contributing to implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-2027 aimed to support Nigeria's achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In furtherance of this objective, UNODC launched in 2022 its Strategic Vision for Nigeria which underscores our commitment to human rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women, as well as to protecting children and harnessing the transformative power of youth. It lays out a people-centered approach to promoting the rule of law and a balanced approach to drug control.
Through strategic partnerships and funding from donors, UNODC provides support in the areas of anti-corruption, counter-terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism, drug prevention, treatment and care, the fight against transnational organized, including maritime crime, trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants and crimes affecting the environment.
