Social Media Campaign and Competition in Commemoration of World Wildlife Day 2024
Wildlife is shrinking! "Our world is at a tipping point. Protecting people and the planet represents one of the greatest and most urgent challenges we face. Organized crime poses a major threat to our environment, with organized criminal groups around the world engaging in wildlife trafficking, crimes in the fisheries sector, waste trafficking and illegal mining, among other illicit activities. This exploitation has a serious impact on our ecosystems, on our national security, and on the lives of millions of people who depend on these natural resources for their livelihoods.” says UNODC Executive Director, Ms Ghada Waly.
The impact of criminal activities on the environment is often poorly understood by the general public and it’s overlooked by the political debates around the world. Institutions are ill-equipped to respond adequately to criminal groups that operate with impunity. If nothing is done to conserve wildlife and protect the planet from crime, today’s youth will live in a less healthy planet and will be more exposed to the consequences of climate change. More than ever, young people must be part of the solution and should be involved in awareness raising for the planet and the creation of innovative approaches.
As World Wildlife Day draws closer, and in line with this year’s theme “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”, we want young people like YOU to join the #BeWildForNature competition and share your creative idea on how technology and digital innovations can support wildlife conservation in Nigeria for a chance to win a BRAND-NEW LAPTOP, TABLET OR SMARTPHONE.
