Bangladesh: UNODC holds workshop with university students with educational modules on Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants

Dhaka, Bangladesh/11 June 2022: UNODC, under the aegis of GLO.ACT-Bangladesh, jointly organized a workshop on engaging university students with educational resources on Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM), in partnership with the Daffodil International University (DIU).

Building on an expert meeting held with faculty members from 25 universities in Bangladesh in August 2020, this workshop was part of the series of interventions made by GLO.ACT-Bangladesh in partnership with the network of academics.

The day-long workshop with DIU began with the opening ceremony being addressed by the pro-vice chancellor of DIU and other senior faculty members.

GLO.ACT-Bangladesh team inaugurated the UNODC corner at the DIU library, which includes all materials published by the project. It is expected that the materials from the UNODC corner will assist students and academics on their knowledge development and research on TIP and SOM.

The workshop was attended by 30 (15 female, 15 male) students robustly engaging with the facilitators. The sessions focused on demystifying the national and international framework governing TIP and SOM, and ways to counter these crimes.

Special emphasis was given on clarifying the theoretical concept of TIP and SOM by analyzing their differences, and understanding the vulnerabilities of females and children.
