The first Regional Workshop on strengthening collaboration between SAIs and ACBs organized by UNODC was held on 26 and 27 September 2022 in Mexico City, with the aim of identifying possible overlapping workstreams and enhancing collaboration between supreme audit institutions (SAIs) and anti-corruption bodies (ACBs) from Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The workshop, held within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Declaration Program and with the support of the UNODC Anti-Corruption Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean, brought together 43 people from 17 countries and territories of the region, who participated in discussions to identify areas of cooperation, exchange and joint actions, in addition to sharing experiences and good practices on how to improve the effectiveness and operational mechanisms of cooperation between SAIs and ACBs.
In addition to challenges typically faced in the management of public finances, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for greater transparency, accountability and integrity in the use and allocation of public funds. Thus, UNODC provides support to States parties to strengthen their capacity to apply these approaches in practice, ensure the integrity of financial management and strengthen links between auditors and anti-corruption professionals.
Designed following the UNODC Practical Guide to Enhancing Collaboration between Supreme Audit Institutions and Anti-Corruption Bodies, this event was the first in a series of workshops to be held among the Regional Organizations of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
