UNODC Promotes the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism in Malaysia

Under the project “Promoting Universalization and Effective Implementation of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism” funded by the European Union, UNODC has been actively promoting adherence to the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism (ICSANT), which currently comprises 120 States Parties. As part of these outreach efforts, UNODC conducted a country visit to Malaysia on 11 October 2022.

UNODC held bilateral high-level meetings with representatives of the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meetings, UNODC seized the opportunity to describe main provisions of ICSANT and illustrate importance of becoming party to ICSANT with concrete examples on benefits of adherence to this Convention. Representatives of UNODC also provided an overview of its ICSANT-related tools and the technical and legislative assistance that the Office is ready to render to Malaysia in a tailored fashion with regard to the country's adherence to, and implementation of, ICSANT.
