Bosnia and Herzegovina: Passenger and Cargo Border Team organized a regional workshop on Tobacco products smuggling 

 

7-9 November 2023, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: As a part of its planned annual activities, The UNODC Passenger and Cargo Border Team (PCBT) jointly with the World Customs Organization (WCO) organized regional workshop to discuss issues of tobacco products smuggling and other illicit and black-market activities associated with the tobacco illicit flows in the Southeastern Europe (SEE) region, gathering customs and police officers from five jurisdictions.

During the three-day workshop, the law enforcer from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo[1], Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia and Serbia, also officials from the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, provided presentations and case studies, and actively contributed to discussions aimed for a better planning of prevention, preparedness, and response activities of the law enforcement and judiciary structures in the region.

The roundtable was concluded with production of the set of recommendations to be used for the future planning of the PCBT programming and support to law enforcement and judiciary structures in the SEE region.

The three-day in-person mentoring activity has been implemented within the EU-UNODC action on promoting the rule of law and good governance through targeted border control measures at ports and airports, funded by the European Union and implemented by AIRCOP and CCP in cooperation with the UNODC Regional Programme for South Eastern Europe.
