SEE law enforcement officers on a study visit to Istanbul, Türkiye

17-19 September 2023, Istanbul, Türkiye: The UNODC Passenger and Cargo Border Team (PCBT) organized a study visit to Istanbul, Türkiye for 16 border police and customs administration officers, designated members of the AIRCOP/CCP interagency groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia. The visit was organized in cooperation with the government of Türkiye, its Directorate General for Customs Enforcement Counter-Narcotics Department.

The theoretical part of the visit composed of presentation of the passenger targeting methodologies, control of targeted passengers and luggage/control at plane’s gate, X-Ray imaging detection techniques, insider threat as well as operational support and searching techniques. Two days of the visit have been devoted to practical exercises and training at the Istanbul Airport on passenger targeting applications and luggage controls. The delegates had the opportunity to visit the Istanbul Airport Cargo Section and exchange experience and increase knowledge on the application of cargo risk analyses and control of risky shipments.

The training was delivered within the EU-UNODC joint action on enhanced border control, currently implemented in South Eastern Europe by the Passenger and Cargo Border Team (AIRCOP & CCP) in cooperation with the  and the UNODC Regional Programme for South Eastern Europe with the funding from the European Union.
