UN holds broad consultation on priorities for the next five years

Brasilia, 11 August 2022 - As part of its new Cooperation Framework, the UN Brazil is holding a public consultation about what should be the priorities for its work in the next five years.

The questionnaire can be answered in just eight minutes on the UN Brazil channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, through the website or through Participa + Brasil.

The research addresses five thematic axes: economic transformation; social inclusion; environment and climate change; governance and institutional capacity; conflict prevention and the relationship among humanitarian actions, development actions and peace-building efforts.

As part of the process of preparing its new Cooperation Framework, UN Brazil is holding an open public consultation on what should be the priorities for its work in the next five years. The questionnaire can be answered on the UN Brazil channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, on the institution's website, or through Participa + Brasil.

The survey addresses the five thematic axes that will compose the new Cooperation Framework:

  1. Economic transformation
  2. Social inclusion
  3. Environment and climate change
  4. Governance and institutional capacity
  5. Conflict prevention and the nexus between humanitarian action, development action and peace-building efforts

In eight minutes only, people from all over the country can give their opinion on how the UN can support each of these thematic axes and what is most important for the performance of the 24 specialized agencies, funds and programmes that compose the UN System in the country.

The new United Nations Framework for Cooperation on Sustainable Development in Brazil will remain in effect from 2023 to 2027. It is the main UN document for planning development activities in the country and for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and it is negotiated directly with the Brazilian government. The participation of people, institutions and civil society organizations and the private sector in its formulation is essential to ensure that the document represents the issues that are priorities for Brazilians.

Until now, the UN has conducted a broad consultation with partner institutions and civil society organizations that work with vulnerable population groups. The internet questionnaire intends to expand the scope of public consultation, to ensure plurality of voices and views on the main development challenges of the country.

The answers to the questionnaire will be used only in aggregate form, so that it is not possible to identify the respondents and their organisations. In addition to the questionnaire, consultative focus groups will be held. The results of all these stages of consultation with different national actors will serve as inputs for the negotiation of the new Cooperation Framework with the Brazilian State and for the definition of the scope of work of the UN System entities from 2023 to 2027.
