Controlled substances in South Africa are regulated under the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act of 1992. In 2014, the Amendment No. R 222 of 28 March 2014 modified Schedules I and II, and some NPS were included in the list of substances under national control. For instance,  synthetic cannabinoids such as CP-47,497;CP 47, 497-C6; CP 47, 497-C7; CP 47, 497-C8; CP 47, 497-C9; HU -210;JWH-018; and JWH-073 were included.
