April 2015 – United Kingdom: Clinical guidance to manage acute and chronic harm of NPS released by Project NEPTUNE

LONDON, United Kingdom – April 2015: Project NEPTUNE (Novel Psychoactive Treatment: UK Network), a network of multi-disciplinary experts on NPS, has released a guidance to improve clinical practice in the management of acute and chronic harms resulting from the misuse of club drugs and NPS.

Due to the fact that front line staff usually is not provided with sufficient instructions and medical plans to identify and treat intoxications of NPS, this clinical guidance aims to close this gap by providing relevant instructions specifically to drug treatment and recovery services, emergency departments, sexual health services and primary care. In detail, this guidance is based on systematic review of evidence and clinical consensus and presents a collection of individual management plans for the most common club drugs and NPS. Furthermore Project NEPTUNE announced the upcoming release of additional tools to complement the guidance, including e-learning modules and care bundles.
