February 2013 - Japan: A mixed NPS identified in the market

JAPAN – 17 February 2013. Researchers in Japan have come across what is believed to be the first example of a mixed NPS. Investigators from the National Institute of Health Sciences in Tokyo identified 12 more synthetic cannabinoids until now unseen in the market. The new synthetic cannabinoid NPS,  URB-754 was identified while being packaged together with the cathinone derivative 4-Me-MABP. The two substances were also stated to have reacted together to create a mixed NPS identified as (N,5-dimethyl-N-(1-oxo-1-(p-tolyl)butan-2-yl)-2-(N′-(p-tolyl)ureido)benzamide). Risks associated with the new mixtures of NPS remain unknown.
