July 2016 – United Kingdom: Key findings of the Global Drug Survey 2016 are announced

LONDON, United Kingdom - July 2016: The Global Drug Survey constitutes the largest annual drug survey worldwide in which 101,313 people participated in 2016 from over 50 countries. The survey aims to offer an insight into drug and alcohol use patterns at both global and national levels. The 2016 findings particularly highlight the health risks associated with New Psychoactive Substances (NPS). On the whole, NPS users are found more likely to be in need of emergency medical treatment than users of other traditional drugs. Moreover, the survey results show that synthetic cannabinoid users are more likely to seek emergency medical treatment than users of any other drug.

With respect to NPS purchase patterns, survey participants from the United Kingdom reported the highest rate of last year NPS purchases of any other country participating in the 2016 Global Drug Survey.
