April 2013 - New Zealand: NPS BB-22 and 5F-AKB48 banned

NEW ZEALAND – 20 April 2013. A new Temporary Class Drug Notice has banned in New Zealand two NPS identified as BB-22 and 5F-AKB48. The substances were found in products sold as ‘K2’, which often contain synthetic cannabinoids and had been previously connected to a number of health incidents. The new temporary ban brings to 35 the number of substances banned under temporary notices. Temporary Class Drug Notices have been used in New Zealand to counteract the challenge of NPS, until the new control system for these substances, i.e. the Psychoactive Substances Bill becomes a law.
