UNODC and Brazil attend the ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York

 

New York, 1 February 2016 - Between 01 and 02 of February 2016, another edition of the  ECOSOC Youth Forum will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting of the Economic and Social Council in 2016 will have as its overall theme: "Implementing the post-2015 development agenda: moviment from commitments to results".

Over the past few years, the impetus for the engagement of young people in the United Nations has grown. Young people were involved in different discussions and UN processes for post-2015 Development Agenda. The 2015 Youth Forum called for strong engagement at the national level to ensure implementation of the futura Agenda while remaining connected to global level dialogue.

Young people also underscored the need for new dynamic methods for communicating the SDGs to young people, both globally and within national contexts. They proposed to work closely with the UN and other development partners to strategize on ways of bridging the everyday concerns of young people with the emerging frameworl for the proposed 17 SDGs.

In 2016, the intention is to bring the youth voice to the intergovernmental debate in the discussion about how to make the agenda a reality in 2030 and how the actions will be monitored.

The event will feature opening and closing plenary sessions with representatives from youth organizations, civil society, representatives of Member States and international organizations.

 

Among the representatives of Brazil, there is Ruth Itunu Adewonuola , Young of Expression participant, which is a social program of Caixa Seguradora in partnership with Network -Cultural Action Urbana, R.U.A.S. , and with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, which will also feature Vivian Coelho, representing the agency in the Brazilian delegation.

The representative ofYoung of Expression, Ruth, will have the mission to spread best practice design and pegging the concerns and proposals of young Brazilians to the Sustainable Development agenda in 2030, beyond interact with young people worldwide , bringing trends in the Brazilian context.

The meeting will be available through webcast and participants will be able to ask questions via social media , Facebook and Twitter.

 As a result of this Forum , will be drawn up a Presidential Declaration of ECOSOC presenting elements for a contribution led by young people for the review of implementation of Agenda 2030. The abstract will be presented at the high-level segment of ECOSOC in July 2016.

The outcome of this Forum will be an ECOSOC Presidential Statement presenting elements for a youth-led contribution to the review of implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The summary will be presented at the ECOSOC's high-level segment in July 2016
