International event discusses mapping of drug treatment and prevention services in Pernambuco

International webinar will have the presence of experts and will address the need for international guidelines in the standardization of care for people who make harmful use of alcohol and other drugs

Brasilia, 14 May 2021, professionals with different backgrounds from the psychosocial care network, professionals in the area of violence and drug prevention, external observers and representatives from the Northeast Consortium, Superintendence for the Development of the Northeast (SUDENE), Mato Grosso Court of Justice (TJMT), and the Brazilian Public Safety Forum, will participate  in the webinar "International Guidelines, Prevention, and Mapping of Drug Use Treatment Services" that will virtually take place via Zoom, with simultaneous translation. The event will take place on 24 May, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The event takes place in the scope of the Pernambuco Cooperation, a partnership between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the State Secretariat for Violence and Drug Prevention Policies (SPVD), the United Nations Human Settlements Agency (UN-HABITAT) and the Igarapé Institute.

The webinar will mark the launch of an unprecedented comprehensive research in Brazil, inspired by the tool developed by UNODC, in partnership with WHO. The research will be conducted in all 184 municipalities of the state of Pernambuco and the territory of Fernando de Noronha, with expected participation of around three thousand teams from the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) and 102 Host Therapeutic Communities. The research will map the entire support network for people who make harmful use of alcohol and/or other drugs.
