UNODC Country Representative Highlighted UN as Promotor of Peace at Model United Nations FROMUN'15 - 7 th Edition

9 October 2015, Islamabad - UNODC Representative Cesar Guedes participated as chief guest for the closing of 3 days model United Nations FROMUN 2015 at Froebels International School. The venue congregated over 300 students from 4 schools from the Islamabad area. 

In Pakistan FROMUN has achieved a great reputation as a forum addressing global concerns in a real world context, with unmatched vivacity in delegates to the beaming social events among different schools and universities. It foster global citizenship and address current world issues related to regional conflicts, peacekeeping, human rights, women and children, economic and social development, and the environment. It provide students with a better understanding of the inner working of the UN and to foster skills in diplomacy and compromise, however, FROMUN is not a debating experience alone; it also served as the water and soil to the growing individual and it is due to this very reason that this Model United Nations comes out different from others on the circuit.

In his opening speech, Mr. Guedes, highlighted the role of the UN as promoter of peace, development and human rights during the last  70 years. He underscored  the great contribution  of Pakistan to the world body and its specialised agencies specially in peace keeping operations and in senior leadership cadres across the organisation.

He saluted all students for their motivation in emulating key aspects of the UN work like deliberations and international negotiations when presented with challenging agenda items a General Assembly.  

At the end of the Ceremony he distributed diplomas to the participants. 

Mr Guedes invited as well the audience to participate in the upcoming celebrations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations taking place at various locations in Islamabad city.
