Skill Assessment Workshop for Investigating Officers of Counter Terrorism Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police

Peshawar, 25 July 2017 - Under the Pakistan's Action to Counter Terrorism (PACT) Project, UNODC endeavors to support Kyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police to enhance its operational competence through various capacity building measures. For the Investigating Officers of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police, a skill assessment workshop was designed to assess and identify professional competence gaps, procedural barriers, and inter-agency coordination issues in the presence of senior experts on the subject with a view to recommend appropriate measures to fill in the gaps.  

The workshop, which was organized at the Police School of Investigation Peshawar, brought together twenty-one Investigating Officers of CTD KP Police from different districts of the province with an objective to assess the foundation knowledge of the Investigating Officers with regards to the law, interviewing skills, collecting and presenting of evidence, constructing the case files and data analysis. 

Scenario based exercises were performed to map the processes involved in the investigation of terrorist incidents as well as to assess their ability to preserve and manage integrity of the Crime Scene and to guard against its contamination, how to identify, collect, preserve, hand-over and present physical as well as digital evidences. The Investigating Officers openly discussed the challenges they faced on the ground especially the coordination and cooperation between the Invetigating Officers and prosecutors.

The one-day skill assessment workshop concluded with the closing remarks from the chief guest, senior officials from the CTD KP Police and UNODC with vote of thanks to all the officials and jointly gave away certificates to the participants.
