New Women’s Police Station in Sibi: Quick justice for vulnerable women

2 January 2024, Islamabad - In a groundbreaking initiative to enable easy access to justice for  women, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has joined hands with Balochistan Police to establish a dedicated Women Police Station in Sibi, Balochistan with funding from the European Union under the ‘Deliver Justice Project’.

The innovative facility of the Women Police Station aims to provide a safe and accessible space to vulnerable women to report crimes of gender-based violence and seek justice.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by the Inspector General of Police Balochistan, Mr. Abdul Khalique Shaikh marked a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in the region.

With a commitment to fostering a secure and welcoming atmosphere, the station is equipped with trained female officers for handling sensitive cases. This initiative not only encourages survivors to come forward and share their experiences but also aims to break down barriers that may have previously deterred victims from seeking justice.

The collaboration between UNODC and Balochistan Police underscores the importance of collective efforts in addressing gender-based violence. By combining resources, expertise, and a shared commitment to women's rights, this partnership aims to create lasting change in the remote areas of Balochistan.

The Women Police Station exemplified the ongoing commitment from the Balochistan Police towards addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the region. As the station becomes fully operational, it will not only address crimes of gender-based violence but also foster a culture of empowerment and support for women in Sibi and its adjoining areas.
