UNODC – ICAO collaboration to enhance Mail and Cargo Security in Pakistan

9 December 2022, Vienna International Center -  UNODC in collaboration with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) concluded a five-days aviation security training on “Mail and Cargo” in favour of officers from Pakistan Civil Aviation Authorities, Customs and Anti-Narcotics Force.

The event was organized under the framework of the UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme, which aims to establish interagency profiling units to effectively identify high-risk consignments at airports and seaports.

The course was delivered by experts from ICAO and covered topics including i) cargo security context, ii) airport assets and personnel safety, iii) security control measures and required training, iv) airport and air cargo screening, v) cargo chain of custody, vi) oversight, compliance, and quality control, and vii) security of mail, among other topics.

The training is part of the larger curricula package that UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme delivers for its inter-agency profiling units. 10 officers from Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi Air Cargo Control Units attended this graded training course.
