Facilitating effective international cooperation and information exchange on illicit firearms and organized crime
|
A key objective of the UN Organized Crime Convention and the UN Firearms Protocol is to promote, facilitate and strengthen cooperation among countries to prevent and address transnational organized crime.
The Global Firearms Programme (GFP) promotes international cooperation and the exchange of information on criminal matters, helping to improve investigations and prosecutions of cases involving the illicit manufacturing and trafficking of firearms, as well as their links to organised crime.
Drawing on the UN Organised Crime Convention, the GFP promotes cooperation both at the judicial and law enforcement levels, through formal and informal channels.

Fostering direct interaction and sharing what works best
|
We support diverse cooperation platforms to improve direct contact and the sharing of intelligence between the authorities responsible for firearms control and the investigation and prosecution of firearms-related offences.
This helps relevant national and international institutions to actively interact, build trust and establish direct channels of communication.
The GFP fosters greater international harmonisation of best practices and procedures.
We encourage the exchange of expertise, experience and knowledge about the most effective methods, tools and technologies for preventing, detecting, monitoring and addressing cases of firearms-related criminality and other forms of organized crime.
